Write to politicians

We encourage you to call or write to MPs in support of localised planning for housing growth that is strategically planned, sustainable and developed in partnership with local councils and communities. We believe new housing should be delivered in a way that protects liveability and contributes to genuinely affordable housing outcomes, without imposing blanket 10-minute walkable catchments across established residential neighbourhoods.

This page provides contact details for Boroondara’s State MPs and local councillors, Victorian Legislative Council crossbench members, and local Federal MPs.

We encourage you to personalise your correspondence wherever possible. Individual emails are generally more effective than identical form emails and provide an opportunity to explain how these planning changes may affect you and your community.

State MPs

These are the State MPs who represent Boroondara, including the Lower House members for Ashwood, Hawthorn and Kew and our Upper House representatives for the Southern Metropolitan Region. We have also included the Premier, the Minister for Planning and key opposition and crossbench spokespeople for housing and planning.

Boroondara Councillors

Write to the Mayor and your Ward Councillor at Boroondara Council. Ask them to actively inform residents about the planning changes affecting their ward. If your ward is affected, ask: why haven’t residents been contacted directly or informed through Council communication channels and social media?

Contact key crossbench MPs (Legislative Council)

On important planning legislation and disallowance motions, the votes of Greens, independent and minor-party MPs in the Legislative Council can determine the outcome. We may encourage residents to contact these MPs when their support is particularly important.

Some key Greens MPs on the crossbench are already listed above under State MPs because they represent our region (Southern Metro Region) or hold relevant planning and housing portfolios.

Federal Parliament

While planning is primarily a State Government responsibility, Federal MPs can also play an important advocacy role on issues affecting their communities.
