Council response

Council was not involved in the planning for the Tranche 1 and Tranche 2 activity centres in Boroondara. Council made submissions during the process that were largely ignored and the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) were responsible for all plans and maps prepared as part of the process. The final activity centre maps were released to the media before Councils saw them. At the same time, during community consultation, DTP planners continued to promote the idea that they were working with local councils.

Key messages: Council wasn’t consulted. All changes were announced in the media w/o council notice. Make clear that Council is not responsible for the codes and new zoning or AC program. The ACs concept is 25 years old but catchments were never contemplated or raised with councils.
